The Nottingham Muay Thai scene

Muay Thai Nottingham is clubs and gyms, in the city and just outside it, not a weekly stadium.

Sabai Muay Thai trains at Phoenix Kickboxing, 2 OPM House, Haydn Road, Sherwood, NG5 2LB. You can turn up without booking. Hours are Monday 19:30 to 20:45 and Saturday from 10:00, including sparring. The live site prints no price.

4th Dimension MMA trains at NG10 3LE, placed by a 2026 listing above ESP Cars, 90–100 Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton. It calls itself the East Midlands’ largest mixed martial arts gym and says it opened in 2011. Thai boxing is pads, technique or sparring. Monday to Wednesday daytime Thai boxing is intermediate, Thursday morning is pro sparring, and some evenings are all-levels pad work.

Nottingham Trent’s club takes beginners and fighters, with more than 100 members. It aims at six to nine events a year and runs Varsity as eight fighters against eight from the University of Nottingham. City Sports Hall sessions are Tuesday and Thursday 15:00–17:00 and Friday 16:00–18:00, plus a Thursday fight team and a women-only hour. Tasters are open to non-members.

The University of Nottingham union page still lists Thai boxing at David Ross Sports Village and at 4th Dimension, but the fees there are marked 2018/19.

KickFit, 6B Lowdham Street, NG3 2DP, is not a pure Muay Thai gym. It was established in 1995 and later left Carrington Street for this address. Tuesday and Thursday 18:00–19:00 mix kickboxing, Muay Thai and Savate.

When to go

Nottingham’s climate is temperate oceanic. Watnall, about 6 miles north-west of the centre, has Met Office 1991–2020 normals on Wikipedia: a July maximum of 21.5°C, a January daily mean of 4.3°C and a July mean of 16.9°C. Rain is 715.6 mm a year, 45.5 mm in March and 71.7 mm in October.

May to September is the easiest time to move between gyms. Trivago’s UK sample puts a typical night around £98, usually £48 to £287, dearest in May at about £134 and cheapest in December at about £81. Igloo Hybrid, off Market Square, shuts from late December to early January.

What it costs

Where a current drop-in is printed, it is £10. 4th Dimension lists £10 for Thai boxing, £25 a month for juniors, £40 a month for ages 13–18 in full-time education, and £70 a month for every adult class plus weights. Privates are not priced. KickFit’s February 2026 post says an hour is normally £10, one class a week is £35 a month, two classes in the same style are £45, and all classes are £89. A £50 all-class rate on that post ended in March 2026, and privates there have no printed fee.

Sabai’s site has no price. A January 2023 post said £5 a session, £40 a month, and privates at £30 or four for £100. Nottingham Trent charges £100 a year, or £120 for the fight team. That is a university-club fee, not a public monthly rate. The University of Nottingham’s £3 session and £15 membership are marked 2018/19.

Independent Hostels lists Igloo Hybrid, 4–6 Eldon Chambers, Wheeler Gate, NG1 2NS, a 7–8 minute walk from the stations. Dorms start at £29, pods, singles and doubles from £36, and en suites from £44.

Where fighters stay

A room off Old Market Square suits Nottingham Trent’s City Sports Hall. Sherwood, on Haydn Road, fits Sabai. Lowdham Street, NG3, is KickFit, not Sherwood. For two sessions a day at 4th Dimension, stay in Long Eaton rather than commuting from the square.

How to choose a gym

• Sabai publishes three sessions. 4th Dimension runs day and evening Thai boxing. KickFit’s is a mixed class twice a week.
• £70 and £89 are the unlimited adult rates in print. NTU’s £100 is a university-club year. Confirm anything dated 2023 or 2018/19 before you pay it.
• Daytime Thai boxing at 4th Dimension is often intermediate, and Thursday morning is pro sparring. NTU’s fights are six to nine booked events a year, not a walk-up stadium.

FAQ

How much is a Muay Thai class in Nottingham?

£10 at 4th Dimension and, on KickFit’s February 2026 post, normally £10 an hour. Adult months there are £35 to £89, or £70 at 4th Dimension. NTU is £100 a year.

Can a beginner start?

Yes. Sabai says turn up, NTU runs beginner groups and tasters, and 4th Dimension welcomes non-competitors. Intermediate-only and pro hours are separate.

When should I come?

May to September is mildest at Watnall. In Trivago’s sample, May is the dearest hotel month and December the cheapest, when Igloo is shut.

Is there a weekly fight night?

No. NTU cites six to nine events a year, including Varsity against the University of Nottingham. Ask the gym for its next date.

Where should I stay?

The centre for NTU’s city sessions, Sherwood for Sabai, Lowdham Street for KickFit, and Long Eaton for 4th Dimension.

What do private lessons cost?

Sabai’s January 2023 post said £30, or four for £100. 4th Dimension and KickFit offer privates and do not list a price.
