The San Francisco Bay Area Muay Thai scene

SoMa, Temescal, and the Peninsula are different trips, and several schools sell Muay Thai inside a wider membership.

Woodenman Muay Thai, opened in 2018 by Jongsanan and Malia, is at 963 Harrison Street in SoMa. There is no enrollment fee and no termination penalty. A day is $40 and a month is $214. Six months ahead is $1,164, and 12 months is $2,208. Ten classes are $360 and do not expire. Five are $185. Privates are by email, with no rate printed.

Skrap Pack Marina, 2068 Union Street, San Francisco, charges $40 for one class. Adults are $220 a month on a yearly contract, with a $195 cancellation fee, or $250 month to month. A $150 start is one Muay Thai intro and one jiu-jitsu intro.

Pacific Ring Sports, 493 40th Street, is in Temescal, across from MacArthur BART. It teaches Muay Thai, boxing, jiu-jitsu, and MMA, and calls the room the largest MMA facility in the Bay Area. Unlimited training is $199 a month plus $99. Prepay is $570, $1,050, or $1,999 for 3, 6, or 12 months, with the fee waived. A drop-in is $40. Privates are $75 to $100. Youth Muay Thai is $159 a month for two classes a week, or $169 for three.

El Niño Training Center, 1 South Linden Avenue, Suite 7, South San Francisco, lists Muay Thai with jiu-jitsu, boxing, and wrestling. Unlimited classes are $265 a month. A day pass is $45, and a first drop-in is $25. Youth, ages 5–17, is $250 a month, with a free two-day trial. Member privates for Muay Thai start at $85.

Bay Area Boxing, 210 El Camino Real, Belmont, dates to 2010 and describes a 5,000-square-foot gym. Muay Thai includes pads and live sparring. The first class is free. Unlimited training is $199 a month. Twelve, eight, or four classes a month are $179, $159, and $139. Ten classes are $399. Enrollment is $99, and the site says there is no contract. Victor Chen’s bio says he spent more than six years at Sasiprapa in Thailand.

When to go

Classes are indoors. NOAA 1991–2020 normals for downtown San Francisco (USW00023272) put September’s high at 70.2°F, warmer than July’s 66.3°F. July rain is 0.01 inches. January’s low is 46.6°F. The year is 22.89 inches, and December is wettest at 4.76 inches.

Oakland International Airport (USW00023230) hits 74.1°F in September. January’s low is 42.0°F. July rain is 0.00 inches, and the year is 18.68 inches.

No weekly fight night shows up here. The International Kickboxing Federation lists Kaizen Muay Thai in Hercules, Contra Costa County, on March 28, 2026, and October 3, 2026.

What it costs

A day is $25, $40, or $45, and Belmont’s first class is free. Ten classes are $360 at Woodenman or $399 at Bay Area Boxing.

Unlimited months run $199 to $265 before fees. Woodenman’s $214 has no enrollment fee. Pacific Ring and Bay Area Boxing add $99. Skrap Pack is $250 month to month, or $220 yearly with a $195 cancellation fee. El Niño is $265. A year ahead is $2,208 at Woodenman and $1,999 at Pacific Ring.

Printed privates are $75 to $100 at Pacific Ring and from $85 at El Niño. The two San Francisco gyms do not print a rate.

FY 2026 GSA lodging ceilings, before tax, are $259–$272 in San Francisco, $145 all year in Alameda County, and $183 in San Mateo County. Meals are $92, or $86 in San Mateo. A hotel month is not a lease. HUD’s FY 2026 one- and two-bedroom rents are $2,977 and $3,604 for San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin, and $2,385 and $2,912 for Oakland–Fremont, which covers Alameda and Contra Costa.

No survey says where fighters stay. SoMa fits Woodenman. Union Street fits Skrap Pack. Temescal fits Pacific Ring, across from MacArthur BART. South San Francisco fits El Niño. Belmont fits Bay Area Boxing.

How to choose a gym

• Confirm the art. Woodenman bills Muay Thai. The other four bill several arts together.
• Add the fee. $199 plus $99 is not $214 with nothing on top.
• Ask if sparring is included. Bay Area Boxing names live sparring.
• Get private minutes in writing. The printed ranges do not give them.
• Price the trip. SoMa, Temescal, South San Francisco, and Belmont are separate commutes.
