Women's Muay Thai

Last reviewed 10 Oct 2026

Thirty-five London listings state a women-only class. The city page lists 131 gyms. The women facet text says "35 of 133", which does not match 131, and we are not hiding that. Nationally, the sitemap of 2 Oct 2026 shows 9 UK city facets for women. Across the UK directory, 293 listings state beginner classes. None of these figures say whether a mixed class is welcoming. They say what was written down.

Key facts:

  • London women-only: 35 stated. Denominator 131 on the city page, 133 on the facet wording.
  • 9 UK women facets on the 2 Oct 2026 sitemap. That is facets, not a count of women training.
  • Fairtex's own chart says 12oz is common for women and smaller hands. Sparring still follows the gym. Atlas copy: most UK gyms ask for 16oz to spar.
  • We did not open an NHS menstrual-exercise page. There is no cycle-phase plan on this page.
  • No medical claims. Pain that stops training is a reason to speak to a GP or a pharmacist. NHS 111 if it is severe.

Women's classes are a filter, not a ranking

Finding a class

Use the women facet where it exists, then read the gym page. A mixed class that states beginner sessions can be the right room. A women-only label that never runs is not. Ask when the session is, who coaches it, and whether sparring is optional. Nine facets means most UK cities on our sitemap do not have a separate women page. The absence of a facet is not the absence of a class. Phone the gym.

The directory has 671 UK gyms. Start with the city you can reach. London, Manchester (26), Birmingham (18) and Glasgow (17) are the largest lists.

Kit

Shorts you can kick in, a T-shirt, and a question about loaner gloves. Buy wraps when you stay. Fairtex's HK chart, read 10 Oct 2026, puts 12oz as a common choice for women and smaller hands, 14oz for general training, and 16oz as the standard sparring glove for most adults. If the gym wants 16oz, look for a smaller-fitting 16oz rather than dropping the ounce. We have not measured hands. A men's small short is not automatically your size. The shorts page refuses a fake centimetre chart.

A groin guard is not only a men's item once knees are in the class. We will not specify a cut we have not seen. The catalogue groin guard is the RDX Aura Plus T-17 at £26.99, 8 Oct 2026. A mouthguard has no catalogue price. Buy one before partner work.

Training and the menstrual cycle

People train through a period when they feel able to. We are not going further than that. We did not open a dedicated NHS page on exercise and periods in this pass, so we will not assign sessions to cycle phases, and we will not claim a performance effect. Pain that stops you training is a reason to speak to a GP or a pharmacist. Use NHS 111 if the pain is severe. Ankle and wrist injuries follow the same NHS pages as everyone else's. A sleeve is not a diagnosis.

Safety

Sparring is optional until you want it, in a gym that is any good. A coach who pairs you with someone much heavier on week two, or who treats "women's class" as aerobics with gloves, is a reason to use one of the other listings. We are not naming a gym for that. The red flags in the beginners guide apply here: no warm-up, no price until you are inside, pressure to spar on day one.

FAQs

How do I find women's Muay Thai near me?

Use the women facet on the city page where we have one. London has 35 listings that state a women-only class, out of 131 gyms on the city page. The facet text says 35 of 133, which does not match, and we are leaving that visible. The 2 Oct 2026 sitemap has 9 UK women facets. No facet does not mean no class. Ask the gym. Nationally, 293 listings state beginner classes.

What oz gloves should women wear?

Fairtex's chart says 12oz is common for women and smaller hands. That is the brand's sentence, read 10 Oct 2026, not a rule for every woman. If the gym wants 16oz for sparring, which is what our UK copy says most gyms ask, buy a 16oz that fits a smaller hand. Do not drop the ounce to win an argument with the coach.

Can I train Muay Thai on my period?

If you feel able to, yes. We have not verified an NHS page on exercise and the menstrual cycle, so we do not publish a phase-by-phase plan or a performance claim. Pain that stops training is a reason to speak to a GP or a pharmacist. Use NHS 111 if the pain is severe. This is not medical advice.

Do I need different kit?

Shorts you can kick in, wraps, gloves in the gym's ounce, a mouthguard before partner work, and a guard once knees are involved. We have no mouthguard price. The RDX groin guard in the catalogue is £26.99 at the catalogue price recorded 8 Oct 2026. We will not invent a women's short size chart. Use the brand's own chart.
